Who we are

GopherCart is a grocery savings app for shoppers across Canada. Enter your postal code and it prices your whole grocery list at stores within your chosen radius (15–200 km), then tells you where one trip costs the least — compared per gram, millilitre or unit, same brand and size, including sale and flyer prices.

Who this policy covers

GopherCart is a Canada-only service. It is intended for shoppers located in Canada, and store, flyer and price data covers Canadian grocery stores only. If you use the app from outside Canada, you do so understanding that your information is handled under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA and, in Quebec, Law 25), not the privacy laws of other countries.

What we collect

• Account details: your email address and sign-in identifier, so you can log in and keep your lists. If you change your email, we store the new one.
• Location: your postal code (required) and the approximate coordinates we derive from it, plus your chosen search radius. We never use precise GPS.
• Shopping preferences: your search mode, store-brand and category choices, stores you have excluded from results, plan status and display settings.
• Your lists: the items you add, quantities, and any lists shared with you by invite code.
• Price alerts: the products you watch, your target prices and how often you want to be notified (every drop, once a day, or once a week).
• Price reports: prices you report in store. These are shown to other shoppers anonymously — your identity is never published.
• Subscription status: whether you are on the free or premium plan. Card details are never seen or stored by us (see Payments below).

We do not collect precise GPS location, contacts, photos, or advertising identifiers.

How we use it

Only to run the app: to sign you in, save your lists, compare store prices within your selected radius anywhere in Canada, apply your store and brand preferences, send the price alerts you asked for, share lists with people you invite, and keep reported prices trustworthy. We do not sell your information and we do not use it for advertising.

Payments

Premium subscriptions are processed by Stripe. You can pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay; in every case your payment details go directly to Stripe and are never visible to or stored by GopherCart. We receive only your subscription status and renewal dates.

Free trials

We may offer a free trial of premium (for example 7, 30 or 60 days). Starting a trial still creates a Stripe subscription, so your payment method is collected at sign-up but nothing is charged until the trial ends. Cancel before the last day and you are not billed. We store only the trial length and its start and end dates alongside your subscription status. We may also make premium free for everyone during early access; that requires no payment details at all.

Price alert notifications

If you set price alerts, we check watched prices and send you a notification when a price drops, batched to the frequency you chose. You can change or turn off alerts any time in Settings.

Where prices come from

Store and flyer prices are gathered from publicly available, free flyer listings from grocery stores across Canada. Prices can change and may differ in store; always check the shelf price at checkout.

Storage and security

Your data is stored with Lovable Cloud, our managed database and hosting provider, which runs on Supabase and Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure, with the website itself served through Cloudflare. These providers process your data only to host and operate the app on our behalf. Access is controlled by row-level rules, so each account can only reach its own lists and settings. Traffic is encrypted in transit. Lists are also cached on your own device so they survive closing the app; clearing your browser data removes that local copy.

Cookies and analytics

We use one essential item: a sign-in session stored in your browser (as a cookie or local storage) that keeps you logged in between visits. It is required for the app to work and is not used to track you. We do not use advertising trackers, third-party analytics cookies, or cross-site tracking of any kind. We may look at aggregate, de-identified usage counts (for example, how many searches happened this week) to run and improve the service.

Quebec residents (Law 25)

Your choices

• Update your email, postal code, radius and preferences any time in Settings.
• Exclude stores, hide store brands, or change alert frequency from Settings.
• Cancel a premium subscription any time; you keep premium until the paid period ends.
• Reset a list invite code or remove members to stop sharing.
• Ask us to delete your account and everything attached to it — we action deletion requests within 30 days.

Children

GopherCart is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
